bYou Congress: Program available for plenary and parallel sessions

An opening conference, three plenary sessions and an interventional and creative closing session: these are the highlights of the general program of the bYou Congress “Children, young people and media: lives (dis)connected?”, which takes place between February 7 and 8 at the University of Minho. The event includes parallel sessions divided into nine themes. The program for the parallel sessions is now available.

The opening session “Lives (dis)connected? The voice and participation of children and young people in a hyperconnected world” will be a debate between the student Ana Beatriz Pereira (Vitorino Nemésio High School) and João Marecos, a lawyer and researcher. The first plenary session on February 7th will be dedicated to the presentation of results from the bYou project by the main coordinators, Sara Pereira and Daniel Brandão. Experts Teresa Calçada and Manuel Sarmento will be commenting on the research findings.

The two other plenary sessions will take place on the last day of the congress. School media will be the main theme discussed in the second plenary session which features the participation of António Paiva (Freixo Grouping of Schools at Ponte de Lima), Bárbara Simões (Público na Escola Project), Cláudia Santos (Santa Maria Maior Grouping of Schools at Viana do Castelo), Luís Maia (Cacilhas-Tejo High School at Almada) and Maria Cristina Silva (Branca Grouping of Schools at Albergaria-a-Velha). Manuel Pinto will conduct the third plenary session and present general comments based on data from the bYou project. The final plenary session will discuss the event’s motto: “(Dis)connected Lives? Children, young people and media”. Participants includes Cristina Ponte (NOVA University, Lisbon), a researcher on children and media; Diogo Silva, a young person who participated in the bYou fieldwork and is now a university student at NOVA University; João Nuno Faria, a clinical psychologist and Raquel Ramos, a librarian and teacher. The session will be moderated by the journalist Joana Fillol, also a scholarship holder from the bYou project.

During the closing session of the congress will be presented concluding notes of the two days of debate, a presentation of a manifesto and an artistic performance.
