The bYou project’s methodology was divided into five tasks. The fourth related to the expressions of children and young people through school media and involved interviewing pupils and teachers involved in school newspapers, radios or televisions across the country.
This work was carried out between May 2023 and June 2024 and the first result of this task – a 47-minute documentary – has now been released and can be viewed on bYou’s YouTube channel, HERE.
Entitled Media Escolares – Vozes em Ação (School Media – Voices in Action), the documentary directed by Sara Pereira, Daniel Brandão and Joana Fillol, edited by Manuel Pedro Gil and Rafael Lopes, from Lighthouse Studios, analyses the work of nine newspapers, two radio stations and a school television channel from 12 school groups from the north to the south of the country and the islands.
The school media heard for this work were the newspaper Sinopse (Agrupamento de Escolas de Albergaria-a-Velha), the newspaper Escrita Irrequieta (A.E. da Branca, Albergaria-a-Velha), the television station TV na Maior (A.E. de Santa Maria Maior, Viana do Castelo), the newspaper Comunica (A.E. do Freixo, Ponte de Lima), the newspaper Patrício’s News (A.E. Manuel Ferreira Patrício, Évora), the radio station Vale do Tamel (A.E. Vale do Tamel, Barcelos), the newspaper Jornal com Pinta (Centro Educativo dos Olivais, Coimbra), the newspaper Margem Certa (Escola Secundária de Cacilhas-Tejo, Almada), the radio station Impacto (Escola Secundária Ferreira de Castro, Oliveira de Azeméis), the newspaper Leia FF (Escola Secundária Francisco Franco, Madeira), the newspaper Newsletter O Lyceu (Escola Secundária Jaime Moniz, Madeira) e the newspaper Se Bem nos Lembramos (E.S. Vitorino Nemésio, Ilha Terceira, Açores).
In addition to those directly involved in school media, the coordinators of the Público na Escola project, Bárbara Simões and Luísa Gonçalves, were also interviewed, helping to draw up a panorama of school journalism in Portugal at the moment.
The contact with the players in the field will also result in scientific articles, a book (already on its way to being printed) that is intended to be a support for those who want to improve or create school media and communications at congresses.
