This video presents the main results of the research project “bYou: Study of children and young people’s experiences and expressions of the media”, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (PTDC/COM-OUT/3004/2020) and developed between March 2021 and March 2025 at the Communication and Society Research Centre at the University of Minho.
Over four years, the research team explored the ways in which children and young people in Portugal express themselves, participate and relate to the media. The video summarises and analyses the results of the project’s four core tasks: a national online survey, focus groups with children and young people, an initiative and an online platform to promote and analyse expressions about and through the media, and a study on school media in Portugal that resulted in a documentary. A final reflection on the data and implications completes this in-depth portrait of the youth voice in the current media ecosystem.
