Although there are still articles and books to be published and papers to be presented as part of bYou, the project officially came to an end on March 28th.
In the days before, part of the team that researched children’s and young people’s experiences and expressions of media took part in The 11th Asian Conference on Education & International Development in Tokyo, Japan, which took place between March 24 and 29.
At the conference, Sara Pereira, bYou’s principal investigator, presented the paper “Youth Perspectives: Freedom of Expression Among Portuguese Children and Adolescents”, while the paper presented by Joana Fillol was entitled “Echoes of Freedom: Audiovisual Narratives by Children and Young People About the Portuguese 1974 Revolution”. Both papers were co-authored – the first one with Daniel Brandão, Joana Fillol and Marisa Mourão, the second one with Sara Pereira, Daniel Brandão and Mariana Menezes.
The first paper was based on data collected in focus groups held all over the country; the second looked at the entries in the “Tell me about April 25” competition, launched by the bYou project to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Revolution.
The interdisciplinary conference was organized by The International Academic Forum (IAFOR), founded in 2009 to promote dialogue between academics worldwide, with a special concern for integrating Asian thinkers and opinion leaders.
